Surfing Near Agadir: Gateway to Morocco's Best Waves

Agadir is Morocco's largest coastal city and a practical entry point for surf trips to Taghazout, Aourir, and Imsouane. While Agadir itself has broad beaches and city comfort, the true surf action starts north of the city where the iconic breaks are located.

Why Use Agadir as Your Base

Airport access: Agadir-Al Massira (AGD) is the most convenient airport for surfers heading to Taghazout.

City convenience: Hotels, restaurants, shopping, and nightlife are all within easy reach.

Perfect location: Top surf zones are within driving distance, with Taghazout as the closest and most famous hub.

Famous Spots Around Agadir

Taghazout breaks: Most visitors come for famous waves like Anchor Point and Banana Point, with Hash Point, Panoramas, Mysteries, and Spiders adding depth across different levels and conditions.

South coast option: There are heavier expert-only waves farther south (including Boukana), but these are secondary for most surf travelers compared with the Taghazout and Aourir zones.

Agadir city beach (Marina area): There are also multiple surf peaks along the long city beach and boulevard. We mainly use these city spots when the other breaks are too big or too heavy, and they can still deliver really fun sessions with an easy paddle-out.

Imsouane: Home of the legendary 900m bay wave and a favorite day-trip destination.

Best Time to Surf

October-April: Prime season with consistent NW swell and powerful conditions.

May-September: Smaller, cleaner waves ideal for beginners and progression.

What to Do in Agadir Beyond Surfing

Old Medina (Medina Polizzi): A rebuilt medina designed to reflect Agadir's pre-earthquake heritage after the devastating 1960 earthquake.

Crocoparc (Crocopark): A well-known park near Agadir with hundreds of Nile crocodiles, plus reptile and botanical areas.

Dino Aqua Parc: A fun family stop with water slides, pools, and dinosaur-themed attractions for a lighter off-surf day.

Airplane-themed dining: Visit the airplane-themed restaurant at Dan Island Aqua Park for something different from standard beach dining.

Cable car to Agadir Oufella: Ride the cable car up to the Kasbah mountain viewpoint for panoramic city and bay views, especially beautiful around sunset.

Marina, harbour, and boulevard stroll: Great by day and night for people-watching, sea views, and easy lunch or dinner options.

Agadir Souk: A large market with spices, argan products, textiles, and jewelry.

Beaches: Easy, wide city beaches for downtime and non-surfers in your group.

Transport to the Surf Areas

Car rental: Good if you want flexibility.
